Here it is!
1. Faka'naua Taumalolo (Hawke's Bay)
Topping the list this week, and deservedly so. An absolute beast for HB this
week, he played no small part in their win.
Honourable mention: Saimone Taumoepeau (Auckland)
2. Corey Flynn (Canterbury)
Another solid if unspectacular effort from Flynn. Showing the benchmark for
hookers early in the comp, he will no doubt be waiting in the wing should one of
the WC hookers falls over.
Honourable mentions: Hikawera Elliot (Hawke's Bay)
3. John Afoa (Auckland)
Strong in the scums and decent round the pitch, not an outstanding week for
tightheads but he did his business well
Honourable mentions: Campbell Johnstone (Canterbury)
4. Hayden Triggs (Manawatu)
Like an Ali Williams made miniature, Triggs was all over the park for Manawatu
this week, ever a force in the air, he rounded out a good performance with a try
and a somewhat spectacular intercept. Nice work

As BartMan has been having trouble seeing all the games of the Super 14 over the last few weeks, here's some help for him for his selections for the week (two for each position) Not in any order, just the two best...
Loosehead: Crockett, Dermody Tighthead: Somerville, Hayman Hard to gauge really because apart from the Crusaders none of the others were up against strong props, but the solidity of the Highlanders scrum was a massive bonus to them throughout.

A bit of a harder team to pick this week, unfortunately not due to the quality of the play and the players, but the reverse. From a few weeks ago, when form players were all over the shop, to this week, where it is a struggle - how things change, and in such a short time too. I missed seeing the Highlanders game, but by the sounds of it on the radio, it was a shocker. Jimmy Cowan being the chief shock according to the coms team. I did see a couple of highlights on the 'try time' show though, and Hobbit Blair at fullback missed his 100th tackle for the season, and one of Cowan's passes was beyond bad. So no players from that match!
15: Leon McDonald (Crusaders). The form McDonald is in is going to make the job for the All Black selectors easy when it comes to test time. Mils Muliaina will be chucked the 13 jersey by default, no other fit centre offers the well rounded game that is needed there. Anyway, McDonald again in top form with the Crusaders. Timing runs into back line to perfection, deciding when to counter attack or kick, just doing it all right at the moment. Most of all not having any Panadol moments. Disclaimer: Bart won't accept any responsibility for the injuries which may follow after that last sentence... Last week: Leon McDonald (Crusaders).

Another week, another XV. Not too hard to pick this week, some outstanding performances in the three matches involving Kiwis. Starting to be able to get a grip on a form XV over the first two thirds of the Super 14. But for picking an All Black side, with all the rotating and the like, bloody hard! The best side though, I don't think will be too far off the one below, perhaps three changes, at prop, number 8 and wing.
15: Leon McDonald (Crusaders). Another strong game from Panadol. Decision making top notch, running with then ball dangerous, and mistakes to a minimum. Just what you need from your last line of defence. Last week: Leon McDonald (Crusaders).

Nice to see some of the more established players staking their claims as we move toward the June internationals and the 3x3N:
15. Johan Roets - Great game in a losing Bulls team v the Blues 14. Henno Mentz - Had a biggie aganis the Reds, in attack and on defence 13. Jean de Villiers - Seemed to break the Force's line at will, pity there was no-one with him apart from Luke Watson 12. Bradley Barritt - This 19 year old Shark is going places 11. Brian Habana - anyone else?

Not the greatest of performances from the Kiwi teams this weekend. The Highlanders getting beaten on their return to New Zealand, the Crusaders never getting out of first gear in their win, the Hurricanes using their second ' get out of jail free' card, and the Blues, despite winning, not looking world beaters, as we now know they aren't!
15: Leon McDonald (Crusaders). Constantly the form fullback at the moment in New Zealand. Must have one hand on the test jersey for this season already. Last week: Leon McDonald (Crusaders).
14: Rico Gera (Crusaders). He ran really fast, and no one else did sod all either, so Gear keeps his spot! Last week: Rico Gear (Crusaders). |

I got to see all teams play this week and with the Reds having a rest, and given two of the teams played each other, it makes the selection picture quite easy as the Brumbies forwards generally got a hammering at any rate! 1 Benn Robinson - upset the much more fancied Fitter. Bill Young, you're looking more a dud every week. 2 Adam Freier - close call but his scrum and lineout upset the Force and Cannon was on the recieving end. 3 Al Baxter - not a massive performance from the big lad but better than Fitter, Henderson, or Shepherdson.

Haven't posted a form side for a couple of weeks, though in all honesty would really have had to scrape the barrel for players who managed to perform decently rather than well enough to justify a place in a side which should acknowledge excellence. Improvement this week for most SA sides with the Sharks finally getting the away win they've been threatening to do for the past month, well deserved and much to be excited about in Durbs ! Bulls, though less than impressive, were robbed by some incredible incompetence in the TMO booth and the Stormers and Cats were vastly improved despite their losses. Most pleasing was the return to form of some real important Bok players, most notably Schalk Burger, Os Du Randt and Jaque Fourie !

Well no one stepped into the breach for me to name last weeks team while I was swaning off in Fiji, so 'last weeks' form players are in fact the week before, but really, who gives a continentals about that, although I watched the Crusaders v Blues game from week 4, and geez, Leon MacDonald was on fire on the counter attack wasn't he, scary. This week however sees the Blues with the bye, so the form team selected from the Chiefs v Crusaders game, the Highlanders v the Bulls, and Hurricanes v Stormers.
15: Leon McDonald (Crusaders). Solid at the back this week, not as exciting as his Blues performance the week before, but won the battle against his All Black rival Muliaina. Last week: Isaia Toeava (Hurricanes).

Not very difficult selections this week, pretty self picking I reckon...
15: Isaia Toeava (Hurricanes). Whatsishame gets the nod this week for the fullback spot. Looking more and more comfortable for the Hurricanes in the 15 shirt. Attacking play had come up ten notches, along with his confidence. The pass he slipped to Fa'atau was a cracker, resulting in a try for the Windy boys. Defence getting better and better too - not so scary under the high ball now. Still making mistakes, but what do you expect from someone who is yet to start shaving... Good games also this week from Panadol McDonald, Mils and the Hobbit Blair. Last week: Ben Blair (Highlanders).

I have watched the games once, and without re-watching 400 minutes of rugger as I will during the week, herewith a South African Week 3 Form XV 15. Montgomery - He is back to his pre-EOYT form and is really looking the goods at XV again. 14. Rayno Benjamin - One or two little errors, but otherwise a big, hard game for the Stormers v the Brumbies

Weve been throwing this one around on the forum a bit, and after some initial picks Ive decided to have the following:
1 Rodney Blake (QLD) the young tighthead prop shifts to the other side where he is also capable
2 Adam Freier (NSW) a good throwing performance despite the easy target of Vickerman, and a good game around the park playing backup fetcher to Waugh. Certainly a tricksy hobbit.
3 Al Baxter (NSW) his scrummaging is better than last year, and was a factor in dominating the Stormers in the second half. His workrate around the field is excellent especially at ruck time.
4 Dave Pusey (WA) took a lot of lineout ball and was part of a Force tight five that only lacks a bit of polish to make them dominant.
5 Dan Vickerman (NSW) Aussie Dan is showing why hes our most valuable forward right now. Dominant over opposition lineouts and safe as houses on ours.

Really tough decisions this week, with very few individual performances of great quality, particularly when compared to last weeks action. Even the Cats, with a 14 man win over the Chiefs, were less than impressive, getting through more due to guts, and a woeful Chiefs performance, than good play on their behalf. Anyway, for me these were the pick of the weekend as far as South african players were concerned.
15. Johan Roets (Bulls) - outstanding under the high ball and an all round solid game, edging out Percy, who just lost the plot in the final quarter, and Fortuin, who impressed for the Cheetahs.
14. Giscard Pieters (Cheetahs) - the easiest pick of the weekend. Great finishing (aided by some weak tackling) and an impressively high work rate from a very underrated player.

The second week of Super 12, and better looking play all round from individuals, and three teams starting to look like teams. We won't talk about the Blues and the Chiefs. Oh, go on then, we will. They were shite. There, that didn't take long did it!
The form XV, a bit of change form the first week, with some new boys throwing their hats into the selection ring, and one Conrad Smith throwing his leg in, broken in two places, which removes him from all consideration for at least the next 4 months. Next time we see the lanky centre in black will hopefully be on the All Black end of season tour.
Good news for Ma'a Nonu though, who has slipped into the front running position for the vacant black 13 jersey with the removal of his Hurricanes team mate. But I am digressing, so, without further ado, this weeks form XV...

Week one form team, kiwi version...
Quite a difficult selection this week, both the men and the blouses, the men up front because so many played well, the blouses because so many played averagely, to poorly!
Well, so many forwards from the locking / loose forward department, the fatties were a little less conspicuous. The backs much the same, a few standouts, but pretty average across the board.
15: Mils Muliaina (Chiefs). Apart from THAT try by Pienaar, where the little halfback stepped the whole Chiefs team, twice, a quality display. In the form that saw him rated the best 15 in the world at the 2003 RWC. A class above the rest of the Chiefs backline, he must be hoping his fellow tribesmen pull finger and support him in the weeks to come, otherwise he'll be wondering why the hell he went south to Cow Bell land.
14: Lome Fa'atau (Hurricanes). OK, not a Kiwi, but quality finishing from the tattooed man.
13: Conrad Smith (Hurricanes). By default. Was tidy, but really didn't set the world on fire. Still did more than the rest of the midfielders on display, wasn't a great weekend on that front!
