Righto, where do the All Blacks need to improve
for Boks round 2 and Wallabies 1?
I reckon in the last 4 weeks they have really
come on in leaps and bounds to the point where even this mob are worthy holders
of the Number 1 world ranking. I guess by saying that I am also saying they
ought to win next week too- otherwise the ranking will be very short-lived and
not so worthy!
I do think next week will again be a massive
challenge as I think de Villiers will correct some of his bad selections and
will also now have specific players and plays to analyse. I think some of the
Bok players will smell the opportunity to cement permanent positions in the
number 1 Springbok side with big showings next week, and this is their last
opportunity until 2009 to break their losing streak to us at home, so they will
not lack for motivation!
I think the scrum needs a bit of work - not the
front end, but the back end. Ellis and Kaino (if indeed Kaino stays at 8 for
next week's match) need to work better on their combination off the back
especially since we can expect to have a solid platform in this area again next
week (provided that Thorn's loss isn't too much of a hindrance).
I also think we could look to develop some
midfield kicking options now that the centre pairing is well established. The
kicking by Carter turned the Bok defence around and opened up space nicely... If
Conrad and Nonu had kicking games it might open up a bit more uncertainty in the
minds of the opposition defence.
I think our lineout is always going to need
work, and especially with Thorn out of the picture.
Any other areas the coaching staff should focus
on this week?
