Boer Team Week 2 Print E-mail

Barry Goodes : Photosport.co.nzReally tough decisions this week, with very few individual performances of great quality, particularly when compared to last weeks action.
Even the Cats, with a 14 man win over the Chiefs, were less than impressive, getting through more due to guts, and a woeful Chiefs performance, than good play on their behalf.
Anyway, for me these were the pick of the weekend as far as South african players were concerned.

15. Johan Roets (Bulls) - outstanding under the high ball and an all round solid game, edging out Percy, who just lost the plot in the final quarter, and Fortuin, who impressed for the Cheetahs.

14. Giscard Pieters (Cheetahs) - the easiest pick of the weekend. Great finishing (aided by some weak tackling) and an impressively high work rate from a very underrated player.
13. Grant Esterhuisen (Cats) - didn't do too much but the South African centres were shocking this week. He tackled well and showed some decent touches on attack.

12. Barry Goodes (Cheetahs) - Nothing spectacular but defended like a trojan, carried the ball well and made some nice passes. Julies improved as the game went on for the Cats.

11. Gaffie DuToit (Cheetahs) - good game from gaffie, showed some pace, scoring a well worked try and booted some typically massive torps.

10. Derick Hougaard (Bulls) - Showed the form of 2002. Not gonna cause great problems on attack but kicked superbly, showing world class BMT, distributed soundly and made some really impressive tackles.

9. Bolla Conradie (stormers) - Took lots of heat this week but had a very lively game. Should never have been subbed when he was. Just edges it from Januarie for me.

8. Juan Smith (Cheetahs) - I know he played 7 but had to make space for him, particularly as no 8s were particularly inspiring. He led from the front and made some superb tackles.

7. Wickus Van Heerden (Cats) - Really good captains knock from SA's most consistent player. Outstanding in all facets of the game. Schalk had a busy game but made too many errors. AJ was solid.

6. Baywatch Grobelaar (Cats) - huge workrate, excellent at the breakdown. Solly also had an impressive return for the Sharks.

5. Corniel Van Zyl (Cheetahs) - Ruled the lineouts which was probably the difference in Durban.

4. Keinjan tromp (cats) - Coming on as a sub after Stoltz's red card, he was inspirational. Incredible mobility for such a big man, his workrate was superb.

3. BJ Botha (Sharks) - Once again showed his international class, definitely had the edge over Os up front. Hopefully his injury is not too serious as he is absolutely vital to the Sharks chances on the road.

2. Tiaan Liebenberg (cheetahs) - flawless in his lineout throwing, strong in the tight and made a few good surges up the inside channel from the lineouts. setup Floors' try with a terrific offload.

1. Ollie Le Roux (Cheetahs) - Cheese burger gave his best performance in years, back in Durbs coming off the bench. Mighty in the tight loose and impressive in the scrums.
