Bokke jump into playoffs Print E-mail

First the US of A game. The Bokke as expected run away with things in this game. I was not so much concern about the scoreline , more about the way the players will do in the basics of the game.  Lineouts. The lineout was dominant. The way Juan Smith settle in the back is really good. The poor Eagles struggle to win a single lineout and the Bokke look very good here. We still need some work in the drive from the lineouts.

The Eagles played negative but we need some work in this aspect. Scrums. The scrums have something of a shortage. BJ Botha struggle on the moment but when CJ joined things looked so much better. CJ play outside the scrums is very good. Don’t think any opponent like the face of this Cheetah with ball in hand or on defense. Os had a quiet night and now and again someone try to run against the legend and always end up on the back of his arse.

Breakdowns. With Schalk in 8 and Wikus in 6 the breakdowns was great. We miss Danie’s cleanout work though. Schalk settle nice in at 8 and just a few mistakes at the back of the scrum or wrong options going blind against the wheel. He looks so impressive in this game with ball in hand and his new habit of releasing in movements, impressive.

Backline. Well for the first time we saw some Eddie Jones results in the backline. Think the first penalty in history for decoy running more or less sums it up. There were some nice tries from backline moves.

Defense. Not the usual brick stone defense from the Bokke. We need to patch that one up in quick time for the Fidji game. Hats of to the Bokke though for a very good first phase of the tournament. Mission complete if you ask me at the start of the tournament in the position we are at the moment. The secret is to take it one game at a time and try and dictate the things you can control. Don’t worry about the other side of the draw. They can worry about themselves and nothing to control there.
