Yeap you guessed it, it had to be, “Dump of the week vol 2” goes to the entire Chiefs franchise. From Coaches to Management to Players this sorry excuse for a professional rugby franchise need to take a very very long hard look at themselves!! I have never witnessed a game in which any team (club, provincial or international) has dropped so much pill, thrown so many ill advised off-loads, and blown a 16-9 half-time buffer against a 14 man opposition. It was such a total embarrassment I’m sure the TAB are looking into the game for “match-fixing” purposes. Not only where the Chiefs lacking any apparent game plan but other questions around this team need highlighting.
Firstly Team Selection: Kristian Ormsby is not a representative lock, never has been never will be, he can offer cover however of a bench for 4, 5 and 6. Jonno Gibbes is an S14 quality lock, and International quality cover for 4, 5 and 6. Sure he was returning from a long absence from injury. All the more reason to start with him, and when he tired replace him with the bulkier but less mobile and aerial Ormsby. Secondly Captaincy: Tom Willis is just also returning from a career threatening injury. He must surely be slowly finding his feet and confidence, why then has he been promoted to captain? Steven Bates would have been a far better option, and someone whom the management would know would give them an 80 minute effort. Willis with his lack of games would be another Gibbes type candidate to be subbed once he showed any signs of falling off the pace of the match. Thirdly Timing of Subs: Why replace Jamie Nutbrown with just 6 minutes to play? Bryon Kelleher should have been put on with at least 20 minutes to play to close out the close one. Lastly Team unity: Wasn’t the whole reason for wanting this early season trip to the republic at the request of the Chiefs to maximize team spirit and unity? Well guess what, it hasn’t worked, on field indiscipline, constant questioning of decisions, two yellow cards, and total disrespect of the “big picture” winning the close ugly games only proves this current bunch are not playing for “the greater good” of the team but for themselves. Team men such as Lowen, Ormond, and Cashmore although not superstars in playing terms surely are missing in terms of comradeship and togetherness. |
