Dump : Stu Wilson Print E-mail

Stu Wilson : Photosport.co.nzNice one Stu?  Not even, time to go!

Isn't it sad, when a once great footballer carries on living his life as if anyone actually gives a shit about what he did back in the seventies and eighties?  Well, we're getting it first hand, and have been since the early nineties.

Yes,
Stuart Sinclair Wilson, the saddest of the sad gits when it comes to being funny (or trying, and failing miserably) when presenting on Sky TV pre and post game, and on the rugby shows.  He is no longer funny, is he ever was, although perhaps as an after dinner speaker he was.  But Stu has got to remember, talking to a rugby club or the like, is a tad different than from being beamed into lounges throughout New Zealand and the world.  For starters, all the viewers are not riupped off their tits after their 15th handle, and are looking and witing for some insightful outpourings.  But no, we get the same raw sewage spewing from Stu week after week and year after year.

In saying all this though, it sounds like I too am a git who have had a sense of humour bypass.  Far from it, after ten pints I too am the funniest man in the room.  There is room for humour in these rugby shows, however, Stu just isn't funny.

Enough on Stu from me though - there is plenty of spleen venting and Stu bashing more worthy of recording for posterity on today's
forum (the reason for this little piece, as I agree with much of what is being said), so read on MacBeth...

(The uncut versions, no editing, no spell checking - like a normal BartMan article, just the raw bile).

"
I was watching Inside Rugby in Australia (Aussie version of Re-union) and each week they cross to NZ to talk to the Re-union boys
Well Stu Wilson comes across as the biggest dropkick ever, he just rabbits on about how the All Blacks are gunna wallop the Wallabies and its cringe-worthy stuff
The guy doesn't add any tactical insight or value and makes Kiwis look arrogant and stupid
I know its stating the obvious that he is an idiot, but why don't Sky give this guy the chop, does the guy lift the ratings 'cos people wanna watch a plonker or what?
He was on with Tony Johnson and Errol Brain and even they felt embarrassed
" - KiwiMurph

"I fucking can't stand the useless FluffyBunny. He's a disgrace - deserves nothing more than the gallow. His smarmy, smug fucking face pisses me off somewhat astronomically and made sure I could not watch Re:Union and even though TJ can be an annoying tosser, Stu took took the cake on this one. I fucking hate Stu Wilson, with every fibre and cell of my angry body. He offers nothing and just tries to be witty - always failing miserably." - BobbyDigital

"
I am struggling to find words to express the vitriol that I have for Stu Wilson.
He is an absolute FluffyBunny.
" - 'Mad' Tom O'Bedlam

"it astounds me how a man can love himself so much when there is just so little to love." - voyeurs

"
Wilson's performance on Inside Rugby night had me hiding behind the sofa, so cringeworthy was it. The 'across the ditch' segment of Inside Rugby is very short and there's little time for any added value analysis. But to waste this rare opportunity to provide some intelligent Kiwi perspective in an otherwise ravingly jingoistic Aussie rugby show by letting Wilson make a complete arse of himself (yet again) just astounds me.

Can someone in NZ broadcasting please take Stu Wilson aside and tell him "Mate, I know you think you are creating this wild 'out-there' personna that is going to turn you into a household name across the Tasman, but your pubstool schtick is just embarrassing. It is not funny. You just come across as a drunken village idiot that everyone crosses the road to avoid. Worst of all, each time you appear on screen, every Kiwi living in Australia dives for cover. Mate, the simple fact is you are a gormless, incoherent, drooling cretin and should not be allowed anywhere near a microphone."

Actually, if I were really cynical, I would imagine the FoxSports people insist on Wilson appearing on the Kiwi panel because he just confirms every Aussie prejuidice about Kiwis as backwoods, interbred, vowel-swallowing doofuses with shit for brains. But I could never be that cynical.

Of all the great rugby commentators in NZ, they choose this complete retard to represent us. Please someone there, put him out of his misery and us out of ours.
" - His Bobness

"I think he is a cock.  He was the golden boy of All Black rugby once upon a time but that was over 20 years ago and he hasnt been able to let go.
Last year before the 3rd Division NPC final live on SkyTV he introduced himself by stating how many points he had scored for the All Blacks."
- Red Beard

"
Few bring out the Kiwi Cultural Cringe better than Stu Wilson. He is just plain embarresing and I struggle to believe that Sky have persisted with it. No one can take a word he says seriously, any respect he once had has evaporated, and all attempts at humour go down about as well as a handbag at an AB training session this week. Big Mex rides a fine line sometimes but never crosses it.
Stu Wilson is in the same category as John MacBeth, Bull Allen and Jason Costigan. He really is that bad
." - FredDag1979

Finally, summing it up brilliantly as per usual, His Bobness.

"
No-one's denying that there's not room for a bit of light entertainment in rugby commentary. The point is, though, that Wilson isn't funny. He THINKS he's funny. He THINKS he's being a real 'character'. But the personna he's adopted doesn't work. He is just cringeworthy.

I know something about this because I started my professional life in radio. There is nothing worse than someone who tries to be an entertainer and falls flat on their face. In terms of media car crashes, Wilson is a multi-car pile-up in peak hour. He is that bad.

What is really worrying, though, is no-one at Sky seems to be able to make the required editorial judgement about him. This speaks volumes to me about the quality of their production staff.

In short, funny is fine. I welcome funny. But if you're going to have a court jester, he has to make you laugh, not cringe
"

So there you go folks, time to go Stu, there is a bar stool waiting for you.
