OK ,stalked Keith 'BRUTE' Robinson and Simon 'Mummas Boy' Maling today in Palmerston North - before heading out to my beloved Varsity grounds to see what was going on up there. More on that below. I'm 1.78m tall and a wee slip of a lad at only 70 kg's - which makes me look a pipsqueak next to these two. Had a wee chat to both of them. Keith wanted his photo with the Waikato jersey in the background, but couldn't do that cause Pretty boy Maling was being interviewed by TV. Keith seems a real down to earth HARD BASTARD, and I certainly approve of him at All Black lock. A decent proper man's handshake as well.
Maling certainly seems a really nice fellow - but that is kinda it for me at any rate - not quite what you want at lock for the AB's. I know htat he is rated for his technical skills at lineout and he really does play the full 80 (if not injured) - but not that killer threat that you get with Robinson.
Handshake was not as firm, he's a good Varsity boy (Otago scarfdragger Mob) and is still keen to play for them. He asked how Varsity was going in the Manawatu, so I told him - that we are going good, he asked if I was with Varsity - Too Bloody right mate I said. He seemed pleased about that - and then the photo was taken. Good set of Teeth. Didn't notice any teeth with Keith. Hard bastards don't smile. Keith for AB Lock with Jack for me. Also saw a photo of Robinson in the same Roller Mills side with Jeremy 'TRAITOR' Paul as the captain when they were little tackers. This bit below I posted in another post, but now with pictures - sorry not the best had to get back to work. Was up at Varsity this afternoon having a look, and since our Varsity A squad was having a coaching session run with them and the Feilding Ag High School - the coaches on tap were, Bunce, Foxy, Howarth, McCahill, Joseph, Arkwright Brooke, Trapper Loveridge without the Mo' (took a while to spot that old coot), Pat Lam, and Hika Reid. All those old fulla's were having a ball running the coaching session. Fox spent most of the time on his cellie - his phone rang non-stop - that boy is gonna get brain cancer for sure. Anyway when he wasn't on the phone he was running the show - still the little general. Other wise McCahill and Howarth were giving it heaps and really offering heaps to the guys. Bunce did kinda fark all actually. Joseph was good with the forwards - he was loving it mixing it with the Varsity boys - kinda like he felt at home. Telling stories and yarns to the boys. They were lapping it up. Lam was kinda quiet, Brooke was quite good at lineout drills. Fantastic beautifully clear day down there, and generally everyone was enjoying themselves. The school boys and the Varsity boys really enjoyed the chance to get some of that kind of coaching from some recent greats. Then the Probables came out to start training, so everyone started watching that. |
