As a Saffer we haven't had many international tours. I remember one special team in my younger days and a very special team that tour here was the 1974 Lions.
Those days we had local refs and to win nowadays in SA is already difficult but boy that team take us apart with refs and all. I also remember the 1971 All Black tour well. For my team you need to be a special player and this is my team.
15 JPR Williams
This hippy look like full back was a special player. He could start from anywhere a movement and was a really special one.
Others : HO de Villiers, the rolls royce Andre Joubert and Cristian Cullen..
14 Bryan Williams. This All Black was a special one. When he got the ball the opposite was chasing like a pack of dogs a motorcar.
Others: Gert Muller, Jonah Lomu, Ray Mordt
13 Danie Gerber. This was the ultimate 13. With ball in hand he could create havoc. His speed and stepping or picking of speed or just swaying in full speed maid him make many a opponents stand still and watch.
Others Johan Oosthuizen, Frank Bunce. Tim Horan
12 Mannetjies Roux. One of the best Bok back players. Mannetjies was special and he get my vote for the betogers arse kick in the UK
Others: Sella, Willie Doep, Peter Whipp, Bill Osborne.
11 Carel du Plessis. We use to call him the prince of wings. His speed and stepping made him a very special player. I saw him score many a try and that BaaBaas try on Twickers was one of the best I ever saw from the prince.
Others. Campo, JJ Williams, Syd Nomis
10 Hugo Porta. This Argie has been the Boks on his own and was for many a year the Pumas only decent player. To beat a Bok side with the boot have to be a special one.
Others. Phil Bennett, Grant Fox, Naas Botha, Camberobero
9 Gareth Edwards. This scrummy was the ultimate. His sharp breaks and service made famous flyhalfs.
Others Syd Going, Dawie de Villiers, Divan Serfontein
8 Morne du Plessis. Bottle neck was a demon in his time. Until today I can understand why he did not go on the 1981 Bok tour.
Others. Tommy Bedford, Mexted, Zinny, Jeanne Pierre Rives
7 Jan Ellis. This ginger head Namibiar was class. Ball in one hand was his trade mark and hard as rock.
Others Cowboy, Gert Smal, Theuns Stofberg, Rob Louw
6 Richie McCaw. I'll make this exception for a current player. I have saw many fetchers but he will be the best.
Others Boland Coetzee, Thys Lourens, Schalk Burger
5 Frik du Preez/Colin Meads. Can help but I want them both here. The same kind of players in the same time opponents and wouldnt it be great to see these two greats in the same team.
Others: Martin Johnson, Bakkies Botha
4 Willie John McBride. This captain of that 74 Lions team knew the grunt work.
Others: John Eales, Ian Jones and Victor Matfield
3 Hempies du Toit. Hempies was the strongest of the strongest scrummer I knew. You haven't saw a lot of him but with a tight head like him, you'd never feared scrum time.
Others Hayman, Mof Myburg, Pietie de Villiers
2 Sean FitzPatrick. This guy was the one we love to hate, no futher comment.
Other Uli the Bully, Piston van Wyk, James Dalton
1 Os. The name says it all.
Others Hannes Marais, Richard Loe
