15. Cullen – some of the stuff viewed on my old vhs tapes still makes my jaw drop – subs - hard to leave out Blanco & honourable mention to the classy Matt Burke

14. Kirwan – his one on one’s with Campo the highlight of many a Nz/Oz game – subs J Wilson & I Evans

13. D Gerber – this choice based on word of mouth from SA and the limited footage of 5 nations Vs NZ/Oz/SA combination match of the mid 80’s where he was awesome & near his peak – as with Blanco v hard to leave out Sella but there were a lot of talented players for this position including Guscott & Bunce

12. Horan – fantastic all rounder with excellent football intelligence – subs B Papworth (what a sidestep!!) / S Gibbs

11. Campese – hard to imagine but he matched what he said off the field with his achievements on the field – subs Cacau (could be the greatest if he cared) / Lomu

10. Mark Ella – awesome in the ’84 Home nations tour – subs H Porta (at his peak & with a decent pack the AB’s knew they could be beaten) / J Davies

9. Robert Jones – little threat around the fringes but an incredible passer of the ball with distance or accuracy not being an issue must have a pleasure being his no 10 – subs Farr Jones/Gregan/Howley (exceptional all rounders)

8. Shelford – one hard man who faced up to the french in Nantes in the most savage match I have ever seen – subs L Rodrigeuz (Shelfords well matched opponent that day)/ Z Brooke

7. M Jones – check out the footage of the ’87 world cup ; operating at a different speed to everyone else – subs Poidevin/Kronfeld/Mc Caw

6. R Hill – did the important unseen stuff & was sorely missed by his teams when injured eg Lions 2001 (his injury still seen as a series decider in the northern hemisphere despite the prescence of Johnson, O Driscoll, Wood and Wilkinson in the team) – subs A Whetton/Jeffry/Champ

5. Eales – a world beater from a young age & over the best part of a decade - subs Matfeld & Norster (both world XV line out operators)

4. Johnson – this man will do the hard yards & then some – subs Benazzi & Ackford

3. Du Randt – to prop for a country that takes such pride in its front row abilities for the best part of a decade says it all –subs I Milne/E Rodrigeuz

2 Wood – did exceptional things in a international team that was during his time very average –subs Fitzpatrick/Kearns (almost as entertaining as Campo vs Kirwan)

1. Popplewell – despite his size a very decent athlete – subs T Smith/Leonard
