Player ratings versus England Print E-mail

With our great leader away it is up to his disciples to man the fort. So here I am with an 'official' TSF player rating (I have already been told they are all too low)

Neemia Tialata - 7/10; not as prominent in the loose and the scrum did not appear as dominant as it was last week, but still a good night for the Windy Strangler.

Andrew Hore - 6/10; if he wants to cement the #2 spot he needs to get his consistancy that he showed in the S14 back. Lineout still a problem, not all down to hooker, but he is a part of it.

Greg Somerville - 6.5/10; again not as dominant at scrum time, but still did what was required

Anthony Boric - 6.5/10; proved he has the goods to be at this level, sure not a star, but deserving after being thrown in with 60 odd still on the clock, which surely had a few fans gasping for air. Rated lower as he is a vital cog in the struggling lineout, which is supposedly his strength.

Brad Thorn - 7/10; as usual a handful for the opposition on both attack and defence, not and dominant at the front of the lineout as in the S14, lets hope it is all down to timing.

Rodney So'oialo - 7.5/10; having a leader of So'oialo's calibre is handy when you lose someone like McCaw. So'oialo stepped into the #7 role admirably and lead from the front.

Adam Thompson - 7.5/10; cruelly denied a deserving try at the end. A performance that backed up his selection, and one that should see him continue to play in the absence of McCaw. A few handling errors, but all in all, a great starting debut

Sione Lauaki - 5.5/10; did a few good things, but for me, stands way too flat and gets bundled back or short of the gain line each time. Saving grace may have been a try, but for me is too ineffective and appears disinterested.

Andy Ellis - 6/10; appears in cruise mode, a player of obvious talent, but simply not asserting himself on the game, while adding in a few basic errors means his band of critics is getting larger.

Dan Carter - 8.5/10; getting back to his best. With his future sorted, Carter can now concentrate on what he does best, play rugby.

Ma'a Nonu - 8.0/10; I have been hugely critical of Nonu in the past, but I fast becoming a fan! Always a threat to the defence, solid defence, and seems to have lost his knack of turning over possession. A well rounded performance.

Richard Kahui - 8.0/10; well, after the furore of Smith being dropped in favour of Kahui, he needed to turn in a good performance; he did. Showed what people have been raving about in his breif outings for the cheifs for the past couple of years, and did it without injuring himself (well seriously anyway)

Sitiveni Sivicatu - 6.5/10; always a threat with the ball, didn't have as much work on defence, so not so much of the normal Sivivatu cricism around.

Rudi Wulf - 6.5/10; solid debut, had a couple of short runs, but showed enough nous on defence to show he was not out of his depth.

Leon McDonald - 8/10; top performance from Mr McD. Always testing the defence for gaps, solid under the high ball and in the right place at the right time; possibly earned himself the 15 jersey for the 3N.

Tony Woodcock - 6.5/10; shored up the scrum a bit when he came on and did his job.

Jimmy Cowan - 6/10; showed the problems we have at 9 at present in NZ with another performance that neither lifted or dropped when he came on, scored a consolation try.
