Plea from a Saffa! Print E-mail

Victor the voctor - PhotosportThe S14 now done and dusted.

The mile posts been shifted not only by the Bulls but also with all the Saffer teams. Not only have we produced the winner but all of the teams made this years S14 a special Boere one. The player stock has been lifted like never before. We played a special type of brute rugby sometimes but also our defences were top class.

The special cherry however is all the road wins and that's where I want to praise the ultimate winner, the Bulls. Not only have they started their campaign with a lot of injured players but still have the depth to produce some history making wins, on a tour previously called the tour of hell. Once they have their injured back the groundwork has been laid for a very special S14 season.  The 2007 title.

The Sharks had it the other way round. The start with a nice home run and end with some telling away wins. They have a very large young group of players. The players put up their hands and at the end they produced the most players for the Bokke squad. For them the experienced players also played a huge role. They can look to the future with eagerness.

The Stormers have a young group, but also had some success and played their part. The Lions are a very young group and for once add value to this competition. The Cheetahs never make the step up and once they buckled they never could regroup.

So all in all, the future looks bright. These teams will loose some old stock to NH rugby, but trust me, next year they will be back and will chase that shifted milestones of the year 2007.

So where will this take us. Negatives first. Before the autumn (feels like winter to me) tests start the ugly politic head looms. The devil of SA rugby.

Then we have the Saffer supporter. Never thinking to the future. All they want is success and instead of seeing the S14 as the start, no they have taste it now and that hunger wont be satisfied until everything is won.  Never seeing the total picture. One loss and its all dawn.

Our way forward is in Jake Whites hands. For the first time he will start a autumn series with positives and high flying players, lots of them. In the past Jake White has had to fix this. Not this year.

So Jake there you have them. Build us a group of 30 players able to win the WC in 2007. Take one or two losses on the way but on your way to this firstly break your WC group enemies at home. Break the Kiwi hold at home. Break the away from home boogie with at least one win. Try and bag the 3 Nations title.

Please that is all I ask!
