Pool 1

Dragons v Irish (Sat 13:30)
 Treviso v Perpignan (Sat 13:30)
Big clash in Newport between the Welsh and English sides. The Dragons need the win or their competition will already be over. A win for London Irish will set them up for a good tilt at the group win. The Dragons could have won in Perpignan with a bit more self-belief, while Irish can be brilliant or brutal. They tend to vear towards the latter in the HEC so I'm going for a home win here. Perpignan are not in good form at the moment but should still have too much for Treviso, but they will want the bonus point too.

Pool 2
Gloucester v Ospreys (Fri 20:00)
Bourgoin v Ulster (Fri 20:00)
A huge game for both sides at Kingsholm. The Ospreys tend to talk a better game than they play and Gloucester are in good form. I'm backing them to have too much pace for the Ospreys whose backline especially never seems to be as good as it should be. If they do click there are gaps in the Gloucester defence that better teams will pick apart in the later stages. Bourgoin showed more committment than usual in defeat to the Ospreys and a win here would set them up for their double header with Gloucester next month. Ulster are in turmoil with their head coach having resigned on Tuesday. Their form throughout 2007 has been poor and the coach felt that he'd nothing left to offer. A template for all under-achieving Irish coaches? Probably too much to hope for.

Pool 3
Harlequins v Cardiff (Sat 15:30)
Bristol v Stade Francais (Sun 15:00)
Both English sides are under pressure already to win these games, it's almost impossible to come back from two opening defeats. Stade, if they play anywhere near their potential, should have too much for Bristol. The anglo-welsh tie is intriguing. Cardiff have tended to buckle under pressure in previous years but this is a game they can definitely win. I suspect they won't though.

Pool 4
Glasgow v Viadana (Fri 19:30)
Biarritz v Saracens (Sat 15:30)
Glasgow should have far too much for Viadana and will probably take all five points from that match. Saracens will never have a better time to get a win in Biarritz. The french side are in awful form and the malaise seems to stretch back to last April when they inexplicably lost at home to Northampton in the quarter-finals. If Biarritz can rediscover some of their old fire they will be too strong for Saracens but I fancy there could be an upset here.

Pool 5
Llanelli v Wasps (Sat 17:30)
Munster v Clermont Auvergne (Sun 13:00)
Both home teams need a win after the last weekend and there's no guarantees that they'll get them. The Scarlets front five is a real weekness so if Wasps can attack them there they have a chance. I fancy Llanelli to win this weekend, probably by less then seven points though. Due to the redevelopment of Thomond Park, Munster have been shunted from their usual early evening kick off due to a lack of floodlights at the moment. It'll be interesting to see if that dilutes any of the Thomond factor and the jury is still out on how well Clermont will travel. I fancy them to put up a real fight here but Munster almost always win their home matches when they most need to.

Pool 6
Leicester v Edinburgh (Sat 15:00)
Toulouse v Leinster (Sun 20:00)
I fancy Edinburgh could be on the receiving end of a dominant Leicester performance today, I'll be very surprised if they don't take all five points here. Toulouse are looking to re-establish themselves as a European force again after a couple of lacklustre seasons. Their big problem is at out-half , but as always they have the players all around the pitch to win well. An open game will suit Leinster's players but they'll need to be as effective defensively as they were last weekend to have a hope of winning.
