Round 6 been and gone, and business as usual,
just, for the New Zealand sides...
The Crusaders continued on their merry way,
beating the Phil Waugh moanathon led Waratahs side 4 tries to none. i
think Waugh, now that he has learned to string two sentences together now needs
to engage his brain before putting his mouth into gear. All teams get shit
calls, that is rugby, your team does not have the exclusive rights to bad calls,
suck it up and get on with it. perhaps watch the first two Highlanders
matches of this season...
Anyway, a 34-7 win for the Crusaders, on the
back of two bad decisions according to Waugh (yes, that is a 28 point swing
thanks to 2 refs calls). The Crusadesr led 6-0 nil at halftime, dropped
back to 6-7, before running in 4 converted tries in the last 30 odd minutes.
They never really got out of second gear in this match, and would probably thank
the Waratahs for scoring that try which shocked them into action just after the
half.
A very sleepy looking Crusaders outfit, but
still far too good. The Waratahs, well, while they were 'in' the match,
they certainly never looked like winning it, they looked like a marathon runner
hanging onto the favouirites slipstream, using all their gas just to keep up
with the lead runner, never having enough to actually pass, or to hold on when
the lead man puts in the hard yards.
So a tidy win for the Crusaders, who barely
raised a sweat - they will have to lift their game this weekend against the
hurricanes though!! Top games from Laulala and Reid.
The Highlanders continued on their merry way,
losing again, 5 on the trot now, this time with no bonus point, despite playing
pretty well, and scoring 28 points of their own. However, they let the
Force score 36, and that was that!! highlanders have a starters chance
this week against the Chiefs in Hamilton, but really, the Chiefs would have to
put in their most Chiefs like performance to lose this one, so that is on the
cards, especially as they won against the Bulls this last weekend.
Vainakolu on the wing for the Highlanders lethal. Clan still need to get
that game plan working. Yes, the 'get the ball to Vaino as quick as we
can' one.
Yes, the Chiefs scored 43 points, and let
through 26 as they at last grew some ball in their forward pack, and gave the
mighty Bulls from Beorland a beating. Probably the biggest meanest pack in
the Super 14, but the Chiefs measured up man for man and came out on top.
Their backline also, with some straight hard running were more than a handful
for the Bulls. A far cry from the easy try that they let through after sod
all time in the match, a gat opening up in midfield that you would have been
able to drive Hori BoP through with clearance...
Good games from all over the show, Simms
Davison leading the way in the tight, and Callum Bruce the king pin in the back
division, and Donald, at last bringing his kicking boots to the game, landing 6
from 7 kicks I think it was - just the one miss anyway!!
The Blues turned their losing streak around
with a heard fought win, 17-14, earned on the tick of fulltime with centre Ben
Atiga's third attempt to kick the winning penalty. It was a game that
should not have needed a winning penalty after 80 minutes, but the Blues were
still not a patch on the team from the first few rounds, mainly due to the fact
that Evans did not make the field (much to the pain of my fantasy rugby teams),
and Toeava played at ten. So the game control was not there, and the Blues
did not pile on the points that they should have. Stormers never gave up
wither, because firstly, what Biltong biting bastard Boer does, and secondly,
they were always in the game. If a 15-20 point lead had came along, then
it would have probably stretched out even more. However, it didn't, so it
didn't!!
No real standouts for the Blues I thought, most
players off their games by a few degrees I thought. Kaino probably the
pick of the pack, while the backs all were 'there', but that was about it.
And Danny Lee. Is his pass that bad that he needs to run all the way to
the first five to give it to him?? His constant two or three steps before
passing is getting up my nose, and no doubt up the noses of the first receivers
too, as they watch the defensive line come closer and closer as they wait for
the pass too!!
In other games, the Cheetahs came close to the
Brumbies, again without really looking like they were going to win, and the Reds
came back from the death, much to most tipsters dismay, and drew with the
horrible Lions in Biltong Biting Boerland!!
