Saffa Preview : Round 1 Print E-mail
Written by PaarlBok
Thursday, 01 February 2007
Blues vs Crusaders - I have always like the Blues style of play. The Crusaders are usually weak starter and the Blues strong starters. The Blues being at home.  Blues 9-16

Force vs Highlanders -  The Force teamsheet look much better then previous years and the Highlanders will miss their All Blacks. Force 9-16

Lions vs Waratahs - This game we can expect a Lion team playing with passion and hunger. They will be out to impress their supporters. They got nothing to loose. This will however not enough to stop a much more experience Waratah team. Tahs by 1-8

Chiefs vs Brumbies - The Brumbies at home is always a hard game. The Chiefs still on the high after Waikato's successes last year will be a hard game. Their rush defense and hard working forwards will put huge pressure on the Brumbies and the rush defense will give their backs no space. Chiefs by 1-8

Reds vs Hurricanes - The Hurricanes like the Blues have a similarity in playing style. They will just have to much firepower even without their blacks for the Reds. Canes by 9-16

Then the two Saffer derbies. I don’t know why they always start the S14 with the Saffers home derbys? Surely this is a disadvantage to our teams and in history if the home team pick up a loss here, its goodbye S14. The reason is that there is always a big builtup and for 80 mins they will play each other in the ground. This year will be no different. This is a replay of the CC semis only different teams and one venue changed but with hard horn Bok players.

Cheetahs vs Stormers - This game have two big battles which I love. First the battle of the loosies. Luke , Joe and Schalkie vs Kabamba & Juan. Watch out for Schalkie I expect a huge game from him. He look hunger and wild and played on the yellow edge in the Paarl warmup. The other battle is the midfield battle. Jean & Corne vs Bosman & Jouba. Jouba will go fullout to proof the Stormers wise men wrong. A good S14 will put him right back where he belongs, green 13. The Stormers will struggle to combat the structure way the Cheetahs play and out wide the Cheetahs will match and even have the upper hand on them. The ref will struggle to get the new scrum laws workable in this match. Cheetahs by 9-16

Sharks vs Bulls - Last year CC the Bulls had the upperhand in the Shark tank. That game turned their fortunes around. This year will be no different but they play a different kind of Shark. AJ Venter & Butch James make a huge different to any Shark skin. The pack was basically the EYT Bok one. The Shark Backline have the experience of Percy back plus Steyn has grown into a national star. The Bulls have Matfield back and they has much better warmup games. Even Stevens I'll say but with the backing of the home supporters the Sharks will take this one. Sharks 1-8
