Saffa Preview : Round 4 Print E-mail
Written by Paarlbok
Thursday, 22 February 2007
Os Black : Photosport.co.nzI have said before the tournament start the Boer teams must use 2007  to built blocks until World Cup. Taking it game by game and get a roll forward. After three rounds of super rugby the teams have finish the foundation by winning their home matches. They have done that bar the Bulls and Stormers who lost against the same opposition and the Lions drop one against the Tahs. So the Western Force is the only team to take wins from the republic so far. The Cheetahs have a added bonus by getting a close four try win against the Tahs.

Now the next step the travelling factor. They must start win away from home and get respect from the away home teams. The Stormers and Lions start this week and the Bulls next week. The three underdogs so far from a SA perspective.

Round four make up for easier tipping because we know more what to expect from the teams.

Hurricanes vs Brumbies. The Brumbies sneak last week a away win against the Reds in a close dull game. They have lost their big weapon but they are still not so hot then in previous years. The Hurricanes confidence will be high after their two wins and will be full of running. If you have a close look at the two teams the Hurricanes look not only stronger but it is a home game for them. Hurricanes by 9-16

Highlanders vs Stormers. This game will be the closest game for the week. You got the home team which gathered speed against the Sharks with a gritty and gutsy performance. They have no real stars on paper but their defence is one of the best in the competition. They will be back after a satisfied tour having beat the Force and narrowly lost against the Lions and Sharks. They will be in their fortress House of Pain and be ready to cause more pain to their opponents. The Stormers on the other hand will be high after their first win. If you look through their team sheet, a team with enough game breakers. They have  the smallest S14 back three for this game in Russell, Aplon and Breytie, a solid midfield and a busy back row. Their coach have a big axe above his head and this is the one game they have to win.
This week I predict a Stormers win only just by a whisper. Stormers 1-8

Blues vs Reds. Both teams disappoint last week. The Reds more because they dropped a home game which was there for the taking. The Blues a heartbreaking lost to the Canes away from home which they also could have won. The Blues will have enough fire power to match or even edge out the Reds forwards and they have the strike power in the backs. Blues by 9-16

Force vs Lions. The home team will be on a high after two impressive wins on the road. They might be on too a high and  hopefully they learned from their first round mistake. The Lions also on a high after two wins. They lost their tight five lighter Varkhond , but do get some beef back in Jacques Cronje.  They also have general Petoors on the bench. He made a huge difference to the Lions in last years CC.  Cronje and Petoors can add much needed experience. Their defence have to be like the previous two rounds. This maybe a bridge too far for them. Force by 9-16

Bulls vs Chiefs. Both teams have silverware from their local competitions in the cupboards. Both teams haven’t fire and both teams like a close forward game. The Bulls will still have pain from the Force lost. This week Bakkies Botha will start after a long lay off. Will be good to see the nasty, big Bok back. The Chiefs, the only team without a win behind their names. This is their captains 50th game and everything to play for.  The Force gave them the recipie to beat the Bulls at Loftus. I don’t think they can match them and give this game to the Bulls. Bulls by 9-16

Cheetahs vs Crusaders. The Cheetahs suddenly second on the log. Will the narrow win of last week help them to go top after round 4. Hopefully we can see a bit of Os in this game. If the Saders fatties struggle against the young Lion fatties they are in for a big test. The Cheetahs and Crusaders can play smart rugby and hopefully this is what we are going to see. If the Crusaders can pull this one through they will be in perfect shape for the rest of the season. Cheetahs to take this one 9-16

There you have it and the  pick of the week game, two, Canes vs Brumboys and Cheetahs vs Saders.
