Super 14 Preview - Bulls Print E-mail
Written by PaarlBok
Sunday, 21 January 2007
The Bulls were one of last years semi contenders and will try and went one step futher this year. The have more or less the same beef stock as last year and will play more adventures this year. The have the best forward pack in the competition with great dept in all positions, Springboks all over in this pack. Comparing them to last year you get the feel this is their best change ever in this competition.

Changes

Gains:
Wickus van Heerden x Lions captain
Nicolas Eyre Lions (John Robbies family)
Wayne Julies Cheetahs
Anton Leonard (the grey Bull back from retirement)
Stephan Basson 7's player but not use in S14 before
Denwall Demas 7's player but not use before
Young Bulls coming through the CC ranks is Derick Kuhn, Hilton Lobberts, Wilhelm Steenkamp, Chilliboy Ralapella

Losses:
Jacques Cronje Lions
Jaco van der Westhuizen Awol

Strengths
The biggest strength of this team is its forward pack. They have been around now for sometime (more then any other S14 side) and know to win. They have been in the semis for two years in a row. They have add some unbelievable young talent, a Aus Todd Louden who will add help in the away games and a potential good backline.

Weakness
There biggest weakness is that they play to a structure and once the wheels come off there is no plan B. They are also bad travellers.

Draw
The baddest in the competition like the Stormers at first look. If they will get wins here they will be almost certain in the playoffs.

Questions
Can the Bulls maintain the same record as the last two years. Can Todd Louden take this potential talented backline to where he wants to. Can the young talent play to there potential. Can they throw  that bad travel tag away.  Can the two 7 Boks , Basson and Dellmas perform for the Bulls like for the 7 Boks? Can the injured players make a big comeback?

Players to pick from (I put my choise first and the others thereafter)
15) Johan Roets, Stephan Basson
14) Akona Ndugane, Marius Delport
13) JP Nel, Frikkie Welsch, Marius Delport
12) Wynand Olivier, Dries Scholtz, Wayne Julies
11) Brian Habana, Denwall Demas
10) Morne Steyn, Derick Hougard
09) Fourie du Preez, Nicolas Eyre, Heinie Adams
08) Anton Leonard, Danie Rossouw, Petrie Wannenberg
07)Petrie Wannenberg, Hilton Lobberts, Tim Dlulane
06) Pierre Spies, Wikus van Heerden, Derick Kuhn
05) Bakkies Botha, Wilhelm Steenkamp, Danie Rousouw
04) Victor Matfield, Francois van Scouwenberg
03) Jaco Engels, Rayno Gerber
02) CB Ralapelle, Gary Botha, Derick Kuhn
01)Guthro Steenkamp, Richard Bands

Look Out For
It is to hard to name certain players here.

Prediction
Likewise the Stormers. If this team can get a few wins under the belt first up it will take some team to stop them at home. Home playoffs my prediction.
