Super 14 preview - Sharks Print E-mail
Written by PaarlBok

Uhhhh : Photosport.co.nzThe Sharks started last year of the minnoys in the eye of many but this year the are definitely one of the favourates to become the first SA team to win this bloody tournament. Looking to the way they have develop from last year and with the new additions surely Dick Muir can be proud in the way he have built this franchise.

Changes

Gains:

Bobby Skinstadt from retirement.

Losses:
Solly Thibilika Lions
Brent Russell Stormers

Strengths
The Sharks will be one of the best balanced teams in the competition with some great dept in all the positions. They will be able to play to any gameplan.

Coaching and front office – Dick Muir is in charge for the second year and will have learned a lot from last years S14 and CC. Campese have add a another dimension and with the Bok captain Smit and experiense campainers Montgomery , Skinstadt, AJ  and James have leaders right across the board.

Weaknesses
I cant really find a weakness in their armour but they can have a clash of heads in their leadership and if the wheels will come off they may struggle a bit to pick themself up again.

Rustiness- They have the most of the 2006 EYT Boks and they may be a bit rusty when the comp starts. They also havent played any warmups to date which may put them on the backfoot for the start.

Wings - Not much dept here.

Draw
They have the luxury of a lot of home games first up and thus a very favourable draw.

Questions
If the Sharks get a loss in their home games first up will they be able to make a recovery? So much will be expected from them and often put themselves in a bad state of overconfidence.

Players to pick from (I put my choice first and the others thereafter)
15 JP Pietersen, Percy Montgomery, Francois Steyn
14 Henno Mentz
13 Andries Strauss, Brad Barrett
12 Butch James, Bgobani Bobo, Adrian Jacobs
11 Adrian Jacobs, Francois Steyn
10 Francois Steyn, Butch James, Percy Montgomery, Ruan Pienaar
9 Ruan Pienaar, ???
8 Bobby Skinstadt,Ryan Kankowski
7 AJ Venter, Kankowski
6 Jacques Botes, Keegan Daniels
5 Johan Muller, AJ Venter
4 Andries van den Berg, Johan Ackerman
3 BJ Botha
2 John Smit, Skipper Badenhorst, Bismarck du Plessis
1 Carstens

Look Out For
May I call the name Francois Steyn, Bobby Skinstadt and Percy Montgomerie!

Prediction
Like I said one of the favourates and hopefully bright S14 from the Sharks.
