PB has been gracing us with his South African
english since September 2005, and to be fair, his grasp of the English language
has improved no end, and is in fact probably better than many native speakers of
the tongue! A true blue Boer supporter, his presence adds to the
multi-cultural aspect on the forums.
Forum member number 1928 - an All Black versus
South Africa tour year...
Describe yourself in 25 words or less:
I am just a grey “vaal” old toppie Boer, having a passion for sport and rugby in
particular. I am a family first kind and always like to be a realistic and
definitely a positive person. Love being humble and really rate values.
What international rugby team do you support
and why? Simple one, my blood is green. There never was or is a bigger
team in my eyes as the mighty Springbok.
What Super 14 team do you support and why?
I actually have a lot of teams. All SA teams, my favourite NZ team is Chiefs
because I always have a passion for Waikato, Aus favourite will be the Tahs. Nr
1 team is the Stormers, that’s where I stay.
What's the biggest challenge facing rugby?
The biggest challenge is trying to keep the old school values of the game.
Watching the U7 kiddies playing in Paarl, I always get those old time bumps when
they make a circle before the game, doing their prayer before and after the game
ending with a “Gimmies Yes”, shaking the opponents hand. Hope that kind of
comrady and friendship will stay forever in the game.
Who was the game's greatest ever player?
Frik du Preez by a mile!
How about non-NZ players? Who were/are the
greatest? Gareth Edwards.
The best match you have ever seen?
The best match I ever saw live was the All Black/Bokke Newlands test, two years
ago. On TV I’ll rate that 1981 Bokke test when Ray Mordt scored three tries.
The best try you have ever seen?
Gareth Edwards try for the BaaBaas
What position did you play, if you played,
in rugby? I was one of that hard arse cocky scrummies.
What do you like about the Silverfern?
TSF is more then a forum. For me its like a family. I love sharing ideas and
learning from others. Also like the no shite attitude and some straight talking
in rugby. There are so many same rugby values we share, does not matter from
which country you support. If you played the game and shared in its values, you
speak the same language. I struggle with the red tale but I think those who
share in my rugby values understand me fully.
How could the site be improved?
I’ll be honest here. At times I think the refs (mods)
should be more constant in there. Before they delete or ban someone they have to
put themselves in that person’s position. Many times I saw deleted post and
posts left to paint the picture to their own liking. It took me a awful long
time to make peace with this and to just let go and don’t press enter in
replies.
Who's your favourite poster?
All of them except the list under. I really don’t want to single out one poster.
Who's the worst poster?
I hate the anti Saffer posters with a passion. They know who
they are.
How did you pick your user name?
Paarl – that’s where I stay. Bok – my blood is
green
How could the game of rugby be
improved? If there is one place we need the game
to improve, its rucks & mauls. Bring back the old school stripe on the back
ones.
What rugby player would you turn gay
for? Never saw a rugby player through gay eyes.
Unthinkable.
Non-rugby questions now
Favourite music?
I like all kind of music. My son playing base guitar in a metal band and that
expose me to noise.
Favourite book?
Never got the time to read book but I find Jake Whites book quite
interesting.
Favourite Film?
Facing the Giants. Can watch this one over and over again.
Biggest lifetime regret?
As a religious person I think I could have spent more time religious wise. Think
you never can have enough of this.
Greatest hope?
Hope I’ll make a trip to NZ in Twenty11 and hope the Bokke will always be one of
the biggest teams on the planet. Hope SA will get better and a country my kids
will be proud of.
Also hope my red tale will improve a lot.
