Alright, the new year, time to dust off the 'ole Crystal Ball and see what is
going to happen in the world of sport...
Starting with rugby, then moving to the other sports...
Air New Zealand Cup Rugby.
Crowds will continue to be down.
Waikato will win back to back titles, while Canterbury, Auckland and Wellington
will struggle, missing so many players at RWC duty.
North Harbour will lose the Ranfurly Shield.
A couple of dark horses to make it through to the semi finals - a Taranaki or a
Hawke's Bay type side...
There will be a few new players shining through too, a new 'Messam' or three, but
that happens every year, so hardly a prediction eh!!
Super 14 Rugby.
The Kiwi teams will struggle early, but still two will make the semi finals -
out of Blues, Crusaders and Hurricanes.
Chiefs will once again miss out on the top four due to some self inflicted
wound, but will look good early - long suffering Chiefs fans already braced for
this.
The Highlanders will be as boring as they were last season, and crowds their will
continue to make Knights games at North Harbour Stadium look like sell outs...
Waratahs will once again be the best of the Convict teams, going close to Super
glory, but no cigar again. NTA will almost haemorrhage, but is getting
used to the disappointment, and with counselling from Lee Grant, will get over
it...
The Boer teams will start with a hiss and a roar, before falling over when the
medals are handed out, and then start bitching and moaning about travelling, and
how they should be allowed to have all their games at home, as they get terribly
homesick when they travel down to the Supermarket, let alone over the ocean to
those 'orrible countries of New Zealand and Orstraylia... As per usual,
there will be plenty of stick on the Forum for, and from our poor downtrodden
and suicidal Saffas...
International Rugby
The All Blacks - undefeated this season, bar the regulation loss to the Boers in
Boerland, which will send their longer suffering fans into fits of ecstasy and
bring out claims that a new dawn for Saffer rugby is on hand - that makes one a
season for the last how many seasons? The Boers though, will be the team
the All Blacks find hardest to beat this season - their self belief, and plain
hardness putting them up there when it comes to competing with, and possibly
beating the men in black!!
Australia - will continue to struggle up front, but will be get better - they
couldn't get worse now could they? These young props they have will
develop into pretty good players, but not in time for the 2007 RWC. The
Aussies will again try a quick-fix though for their problems, by signing a few
more boofball backs, who will then claim to be mentally soft and want to go back
to boofball - after taking all the cash that is...
The Boers - they're like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going
to get. Wise money this year will be a box of hard arse centres, nothing
soft here. Brutal and direct, the only way they know how to play.
The quota shite will continue to screw with the team though, and will again be
cause for much anguish on the boards from the Boer contingent!
England will carry on regardless. Six Nations will see them finish behind
Wales, France and Ireland. Aston (or whatever his name is), their
sacrificial coach will go through the RWC, where a quarter final exit will
finally signal the clearing of the decks, player and coaching staff wise.
New coach? Look to the most successful coach in Super rugby history if a
path to the top in New Zealand remains blocked.
Six Nations - saying that the Poms will finish behind the Taffs, Paddies and
Frogs means that one of those three teams will win the damn thing. Look
for the Paddies to reign supreme - grand slamming and all that jazz, giving them
confidence heading into the RWC.
France will continue to be France, killing a team one weak, and playing like
retards a week later. Their 'retard' game will coincide with the Irish
this season, and that will be the winning and losing of the 6 Nations.
The Haggis munchers and the Spaghettis will again be pathetic - the Haggis boys
more so, and they'll be wooden spooning this season.
Rugby World Cup
The All Blacks will win the trophy. It will be much like the 1987 World
Cup, where I can remember being as nervous as hell before every game, but the
All Blacks, at the end of each 80 minutes, having a comfortable win. Won't
be easy, but will be by 8 points or more in each game. No last minute
losses here.
France Australia and South Africa will be the big threats to the All Blacks, the
Irish will disappoint at the RWC.
Cricket
John Bracewell will be sacked in 2007, and john Wright come into the picture.
Which means rotation for the Black Craps will stop. Which is good, as
Bracewell seems to forget that fact you need more than 11 good players to bge
able to rotate them in and out of the side. When you can barely scrape
together 11 test or ODI class players in the first place, you are poking shite
uphill with a pointy stick.
The World Cup one day thing, can't really go past Australia when picking a
winner on that one can you?? Wise money anyway. South Africa, India
and Pakistan the other chances I would think, but in a 'you bet your life'
situation, the boys from across the ditch would be your first choice methinks.
Boofball
The Warriors will make the top eight this season.
There will be players in the news for being pissed dickheads again.
The New Zealand Rugby Leage will continue to be run by muppets that make the
2003 NZRFU management team look like brain surgeons.
Graeme Lowe will continue to carry the worlds biggest chip on his shoulder about
union.
Poofball
The Knights, Kingz, or whatever the hell that NZ team in the Aussie comp is will
fold properly, and cease to exist, meaning all these has been players and never
will be's will have to find other places to have their final holidays instead of
on the North Shore!
Netball
The Netball world cup, held in New Zealand now that Fiji have cooed for the
umpteenth time in ten years, will be won by Australia.
