After watching the Bokke warmup mess against Connacht I have serious doubts about our World Cup changes.
Its always easy to grade the players one by one but the Bokke problems lies much deeper then that. The same question still remain unanswered and has deepen in this match.
We seems to struggle away from home and I keep on asking myself why?
The Irish province and my knowledge of the old midweek tour games gave me the answer.
Throw the All Blacks midweek team in the Groot Gat at Kimberley and they will also struggle. The last time they played this small Irish province the score wasn't very much bigger.
The basic rugby thing was lacking, called hunger, passion and
motivation. The players bar Wikus van Heerden and Ruaan Pienaar had
nothing and they play like schoolboys.
If you want to succeed away from home you have to play with those
ingredients and against a 'minor' team you have to score three tries in
the first half or you are dead.
This brings the next question. Did we learn our lessons this year? We still have a decent 'A' team but thats about it.
The measure stick in rugby is the All Blacks. They made us pay in
Durban with the impact players from the bench. Jake used the away leg
of the trin-ations to try and find some players with impact. After last
night I think we took a backwards step.
Hopefully the 'A' team will produce on Saturday against the Scots. We
need to play with the same amount of passion and hunger the English and
the French showed in their clashes ,otherwise its home James, and no
extra baggage needed for ANY cups...
